These are used when the speaker is not sure about credibility of what s/he states, and draws an inference from what s/he has observed.
*For non-past affirmative na-adjectives and nouns, drop the だ ending of the plain form and put な and の, respectively: A(な)なようです, Nのようです.
熱があるようですね。かおが赤いですよ。
You seem to have a fever. Your face is flushed.
かぜをひいてしまったようです。
I seem to have caught a cold.
この機械はどうも古いようです。
It seems that this machine is old.
テストはむずかしくなかったようです。
